Should You Choose Polarized or Non-Polarized Sunglasses?

Confused about what the difference between non-polarized and polarized glasses are? Well you're not alone! We are here to explain so you can choose what works best for you!

Polarized sunglasses have the UV protection built right into the lens, offering the most UV protection an off-the-counter sunglass can offer. They are ideal for people who spend a lot of time near water or snow, as they reduce glare and improve visual clarity in bright, reflective environments. The one downside to polarized lenses is that they can cause distortion on certain technology, such as car navigation or phone screens. They also typically only come in the standard green, brown or grey colours.

Non-polarized sunglasses are a good choice for everyday wear, as they reduce brightness without affecting screens and provide some UV protection. Non-polarized lenses come in a much larger array of colours and shading options as well, allowing for more customization.

The downside to non-polarized lenses is that they typically do not come with 100% UV protection, unless otherwise noted on the lenses, and cheap over-the-counter ones typically have no UV protective coating on them, which can actually cause more harm than good to the eyes. To make sure you're getting the best protection with non-polarized lenses, be sure to get ones with a UV coating on them.

Ultimately, the choice between polarized and non-polarized sunglasses depends on your individual needs and preferences. Consider factors such as your typical activities, budget, and visual preferences when selecting sunglasses.
