5 Most Common Eye Conditions

What are some of the most common eye conditions?

1. Myopia

Also known as nearsightedness, it’s a common condition where the eye can only see objects that are close-up clearly.

2. Hyperopia

Also known as farsightedness, it’s when the eye can only see distant objects clearly.

3. Macular degeneration

Affects the part of the retina that allows sharp central vision needed for everyday tasks like driving and reading.

4. Astigmatism

An irregular curvature of the eye that prevents eyes from focusing on light, resulting in blurred vision.

Very often people will have a combination of either myopia and astigmatism or hyperopia.

5. Cataracts

A clouding of the crystalline lens that makes it difficult for light to pass through, eventually losing its clarity and becoming opaque.

How can I protect my eyes?

The retina is vital to your vision and can be injured or become detached in hazardous work environments or during ball sports. Be sure to wear shatter-and-impact-resistant eyewear when you participate in any strenuous or risky activity.

How can I improve my eye health?

A healthy lifestyle and proper nutrition can help maintain optimal eye health. Antioxidants like vitamins C and E, along with carotenoids, such as Lutein and Zeaxanthin, may even reduce the progression of certain eye diseases.
